Self- Regulation Skills in the classroom

Self-Regulation: It is when a person is able to handle their own thoughts, control behavior and their emotions. An example would be if a child is upset about something instead of having a fit, they calm themselves down without any help.

                                      Prenatal:

- Calming area- Having an area in a quiet corner where they can go and relax until they are ready to come back.

- Routine - Having a specific tie=me to do something and doing it the same way and time each day after that.

                                      Infancy:

- Quick response - When a child is upset go to them calm but fast to see what the problem is.

- Calm Environment - Have a relaxing environment where there is no stress to help the child not get overstimulated.

                                    Toddlerhood:

- Breathing Techniques - Teaching the child how to take long slow breaths can help them calm down faster.

- Less choices - Giving the child less options when doing something will help them be able to pick what they want instead of being overwhelmed.
